“Brexit" and China Business Roundtable
Organiser
The ‘Brexit’ outcome surprised many observers around the world. China was no different. President Xi had stated China’s preference for the UK to remain within the European Union. Since the result of the referendum, the Chinese Government, along with academic, financial, business and media communities have been debating the implications for China’s continued
relationship and role in the UK. Simultaneously, a parallel debate has been taking place in the UK
focusing on how to engage with China post-Brexit with much talk of a “golden era” of Sino-UK
relations.
Against this backdrop this Roundtable aims
1. To assess the implications of Brexit for UK-China business, commerce and public sector nationally and for the Midlands;
2. To gain a closer understanding of Chinese perspectives on the direction of China-UK relations;
3. To gain a closer understanding of UK responses to post-Brexit trade and investment relations with China
