An International, Interactive Exhibition Heads to Coventry

An international, interactive exhibition is heading to Coventry this June.

Move and Play is set to get visitors excited and active when it arrives at the Coventry Transport Museum on Sunday, June 30 by offering a range of immersive and collaborative activities for people of all ages - a fitting celebration of the city's title as European City of Sport 2019 to inspire more people to be physically active

The Move and Play exhibition consists of 19 different physical challenges designed to put your senses to the test. From disco donuts to nostalgic tennis, thermal cameras to tightrope walking - activities encourage visitors to be active through collaborative, non-sporting activities – the majority of which are accessible to visitors of all abilities.

The exhibition, which was created by Heureka Overseas Productions – a division of the Finnish Science Centre – has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors during stints in Bangkok and Hong Kong, as well as Germany and the Netherlands.

Visitors will have the chance to team up in activities such as Team Stomp, a game where the more enthusiastically you stomp your feet, the faster your virtual character will advance in the competition.

There are also individual activities, such as ‘How Accurately Can You Kick?’ where you must kick a ball at electronic targets to score maximum points and see if you have what it takes to be the next football star!

One activity even allows visitors to have a group weigh-in and see which animal their total weight matches.

Visitors will also be able to learn about the sensory processes each exhibit activates, the physical skills it develops and the type of mental processes that occur to take on each challenge.

Francis Ranford, Culture & Creative Director at the Coventry Transport Museum said: “The Move and Play exhibition is designed to encourage people to get active and engage with the science behind physical exercise, whilst having plenty of fun.

“We are the first place in the UK where you can experience Move and Play so we are expecting to attract visitors from across the country as well as, of course, families in the city.”

“This is certainly something for the whole family to enjoy.”

Move and Play will commence on the day that a new admission structure comes into operation at Coventry Transport Museum.

Francis added: “When we announced the new admission policy, it was precisely this kind of interactive exhibition that we wanted to bring to Coventry Transport Museum.

“It’s immersive, educational and exciting and will bring a whole new audience to the museum at the same time as allowing families from Coventry to enjoy this – and our permanent collection – for free.”

The exhibition is free. Normal admission charges apply for the venue.

This exhibition has been made possible through support from the European City of Sport 2019 and Coventry and Warwickshire Year of Wellbeing.
