TalentTech Recruitment was established at the kitchen table of one of the co-founders, John Ahearne, in Coventry in May, 2019.
The business matches sales, marketing, engineering, IT and executive talent with innovative employers in the technical and technology sectors. Its rapid growth led to John and fellow director Nick Goodwin deciding to launch a new software product.
The Challenge
John and Nick knew they needed help in searching for suitable business premises to continue to grow the business as well as support in launching its new technology programme.
The duo have over 40 years’ experience of the recruitment sector but they had never run a business before. Before signing up to a lease at a business premises they may later regret, they decided to get expert help.
The Solution
After contacting the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, Nick and John were advised to get in touch with the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) Growth Hub. Its business navigator, Gavin Barnett held meetings with them and suggested training courses. He also contacted University of Warwick Science Park’s Ignite incubator who provided TalentTech with initial support and a place in their incubator in the Business Innovation Centre in Binley, Coventry.
TalentTech then progressed to receive support from UWSP’s Business Ready scheme, helping them to further develop their new product.
The Result
Business adviser, Dirk Schafer from Business Ready has provided adviceon launching the software technology business which is very different to their current service business and requires a certain skill set. TalentTech Recruitment has already taken on three members of staff to add further technical expertise in preparation for the launch later in 2020 of its recruitment software programme.
Their new home at the Business Innovation Centre is also providing a great place to network with the right infrastructure to help the business realise its expansion plans.
Business Ready is managed by the business support team at the University of Warwick Science Park and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Warwickshire County Council as part of the CW Business: Start, Grow & Scale Programme.
Nick said: “We backed our own ability but we didn’t realise the growth and success would happen in such a short space of time. “The advice that Gavin at the Growth Hub offered was invaluable and he has opened up so many doors for us that we didn’t know existed. “Moving to the Business Innovation Centre is a fantastic opportunity to grow our business within the support network here because the infrastructure is great and it enables us to realise our vision.”
John added: “We have recruited three, technically orientated staff so that we can create an automated recruitment software system. “Currently at the testing stage, it uses traditional methods via technology, and we plan to launch it later this year. There is a gap in the market because it can be used in any sector and by anyone, from in-house staff to recruitment consultants.”
