Coventry Skills Summit

Coventry City Council

Ricoh Arena - Lounge One South
Phoenix Way, Coventry CV6 6GE
United Kingdom

Coventry is a city of opportunity. It has a long and proud history of manufacturing excellence and international companies like Jaguar Land Rover and the London Taxi Company and many more are continuing to invest here, bringing jobs and economic growth to Coventry and the wider region. However, like many parts of the UK, Coventry and the West Midlands faces a growing gap between the skills that businesses and organisations need and the skills that local people have.

Skills are also high on the national agenda. The Industrial Strategy Green Paper recognises that significant change is needed nationally and that change can only come through collaboration of stakeholders.

This first Coventry Skills Summit is a positive step towards this, bringing together key local stakeholders from across businesses, schools, Further Education, Higher Education and local government for an interactive morning. The agenda is big, and so for this first Skills Summit, the focus will be on young people having the right skills so that the current and future workforce is productive, creative and innovative.

  • To inform participants of the context of the national and local landscape including raising awareness of local labour market information and industrial strategy.
  • To connect stakeholders together across education and business so that they can discuss challenges and together start to identify potential solutions and ideas.
  • To kick-start the development of work to take forward potential solutions locally, regionally and nationally.

Who is the Summit for?

  • Businesses and representatives of businesses
  • Head teachers and Governors (schools: 11-18 year olds) & Heads of 6th Form
  • FE College Principals
  • Universities
  • Coventry City Council leaders
