Coventry Building Society Arena shortlisted for trio of major awards
Coventry Building Society Arena has been shortlisted for three major industry awards as it continues to thrive under new ownership.
The venue, which was acquired by Frasers Group in 2022, has received national and international recognition after be being shortlisted for a trio of awards.
Coventry Building Society Arena’s team has been shortlisted as a finalist for ‘Venue Team of the Year’ at the AEO Excellence Awards 2023.
It is named alongside venues including Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, ExCel London, Manchester Central, NEC Birmingham, Olympia London, RAI Amsterdam and the SEC.
The shortlisting highlights the work and the results the team across the venue has delivered under extreme pressure over the last 12 months – and how the team has adapted quickly with new ownership to continue delivering stellar results for visitors, event organisers and stakeholders.
The winners of the AEO Excellence Awards will be announced on 16 June at a ceremony at Grosvenor House in London.
Coventry Building Society Arena has also been named a finalist at the prestigious Stadium Business Awards 2023 – which recognise excellence from stadiums across the globe.
The Arena will feature in the ‘Sponsorship, Sales & Marketing’ category and the shortlist highlights the ‘Resilience and Commercial Recovery’ of the venue as the as the reason for the nomination.
The category sees the venue named alongside the likes of the Principality Stadium, Lancashire Cricket, BMO Stadium in Los Angeles and Romssa Arena in Norway.
The winners will be announced in a ceremony at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, on the evening of 28 June.
And, finally, the venue was named on the shortlist for Best Retail Catering at the upcoming Stadium Events & Hospitality Awards 2023, which will be held at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton on 8 June.
The event is set to attract 350 guests from more than 40 organisations and the venue will also be judged in the Non-Matchday Mystery Shopper category ahead of the evening.
Paul Michael, Commercial Director of Coventry Building Society Arena, said that being shortlisted in a trio of awards is great acknowledgement of the results delivered by the venue team in what has been a year of change.
“It has a been a year of change for everyone associated with the venue but we have remained focused on delivering the best possible results,” said Paul.
“In the last 12 months we have delivered our largest scale event in 10 years with the Arnold Clark Cup, delivered a multi-million-pound development and seen our visitor numbers continue to soar.
“From September to November 2022, despite the challenges facing the venue at that time, we successfully delivered 146 events in that period. The team showed a can-do attitude to deliver the highest quality events and keep the venue open for the UK events industry.
“To have been shortlisted for three major awards is recognition of how the venue is now thriving under new ownership.
“We are only at the start of an exciting new era for Coventry Building Society Arena and with long-term stability and significant investment already underway we are set to cement our reputation as a sector-leader, both nationally and internationally.”
