Coventry teen taking on Europe’s finest in major Esports tournament this weekend

A Coventry teenager is hoping to lead their UK championship winning Esports team to European glory in Germany this weekend.

Isaac Adams, 17, will take on some of the world’s top players at the Splatoon 3 European Championship finals in Frankfurt on October 7-8, weeks after captaining SPARK to the UK & Ireland title at Insomnia71 in Birmingham.

Isaac, who moved to Coventry from Buckingham last year to study Esports at Coventry College, will captain the side once again in their first European test, which will pit them against the 12 highest-ranked teams from across the continent in a series of best-of-five matches.

The youngster began assembling a team capable of conquering Europe when Splatoon 3, a third-person shooter, was released in 2022, and is hoping to cause an upset by going all the way in the European finals with thousands expected to tune in via livestream.

Splatoon 3 is one of the best-selling Nintendo Switch games with more than 10 million copies sold as of March this year.

Isaac said: “I am confident we can compete with the best around, but we are well aware of the huge challenge ahead.

"It was an amazing experience to finally be able to play and win a UK & Ireland Championship final after Covid prevented one being held for several years. We are all really looking forward to the European Championship and feel very prepared for the event.

“It’s been a jam-packed year moving home to study at Coventry College, getting through my first year of study and putting together a really strong team and I hope we can do ourselves proud on the day.”

Isaac plans to study Esports production at university after completing their Level 3 Extended Diploma in Esports course next year.

Shoubna Naika-Taylor, Curriculum Manager at Coventry College, said: “Isaac has shown incredible commitment to Esports so early on in their career.

“Moving to study straight after leaving school is a huge challenge but they are succeeding on every front, and we wish them the best of luck with the tournament.”
