Work start on £6m nursing home in Cannock
Work is underway in Cannock to create a new £6 million nursing home for adults living with complex needs.
The home will create around 100 new healthcare jobs and will be owned and operated by leading national health care provider Exemplar Health Care.
The first residents are expected to move into the new nursing home in early 2025.
Midlands-based Deeley Construction has been appointed to complete the development and work has now started on site.
The 33-bedroom care home will be on the site of the former Avon Road car park and will support adults living with complex mental health needs, neuro-disabilities, and physical disabilities.
The home will provide a supportive environment for its residents, with each room featuring an en-suite bathroom and the home will be split into three units to provide smaller groups with communal spaces.
The home will also feature sensory bathrooms, an activities hub, a therapy room, a hair salon and a large accessible garden.
The start of work at the home in Cannock marks the fourth scheme which Deeley Construction has worked on in partnership with Exemplar Health Care.
Eleanor Deeley, joint managing director of the Deeley Group, said: “We are pleased to have started on site with this care home which will deliver much-needed care services for the community in Cannock.
“Our team has a proven track record of developing care homes and we are proud to again be working in partnership with Exemplar Health Care on our fourth scheme with them.”
Exemplar Health Care is one of the country’s leading nursing care providers for adults living with complex and high acuity needs.
Paul Simmons, Head of Construction at Exemplar Health Care, added: “This new home will make a huge difference to the lives of working age adults with care needs living in the local area, enabling them to access high-quality care and support within their local community.
“For many, the location and modern features of the home will greatly improve their experience of receiving care and support, enabling them to live closer to friends and family in a purpose built, community-centric care home whilst being supported by a holistic care and nursing team that can help them continue to engage in society and progress their personal goals.”
The land was earmarked for sale in the Cannock Town Centre Development Prospectus.
Councillor Josh Newbury, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Leader for Regeneration and High Streets from Cannock Chase Council has welcomed the start of work on site.
He said: “We are impressed at the progress already being made by Deeley Construction and Exemplar Health Care since the Council sold the land. This is a welcome addition to health care provision in the town and is an ideal location for that purpose.
“The development complements the Council’s £20m Levelling Up Fund project and will kickstart the Council’s wider ambitions to rejuvenate Cannock town centre.”
