Steve Orchard CEO from Quidem, owners of six local radio stations and organisers of the awards said “We are delighted once again to be shining a big spotlight on the individuals, organisations and visitor attractions which make Coventry & Warwickshire a great place to visit.
“The local area is packed full of marvellous visitor attractions and world class tourism assets and we are going to celebrate them in style. Along with partners CWLEP, Coventry City Culture Trust, Shakespeare’s England and Warwickshire County Council we’re ready to blow this region’s trumpet!”
There are 15 categories in total and nominations are now open via the Tourism & Culture Awards website. Applications close 29th July.
Last year’s event attracted more than 350 guests and showcased the regions rich diverse cultural heritage and best loved attractions. Special accolades were awarded to Coventry Cathedral, The Ricoh Arena and The Royal Shakespeare Company to recognise their status as global iconic destinations attracting people from all over the world. In additional to this year’s awards, judges will be looking for those young rising stars and communities who contribute to making Coventry & Warwickshire a great place to visit, live, work and do business.
David Burbidge, chair of the Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “While it is Coventry that’s bidding for the prize of UK City of Culture in 2021, we see Warwickshire as a key partner and beneficiary. Winning will bring huge economic benefit and increase culture and tourism opportunities throughout the region and I am proud to see Coventry and Warwickshire coming together to win this competition.
“We are thrilled to be sponsoring the awards and to take this opportunity, ahead of submitting the bid next year, to celebrate the outstanding attractions, businesses and cultural organisations within the city and the county.
“We wish everyone who has entered great success and would urge all of you to back our bid for UK City of Culture!”
Louise Bennett, chief executive of Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce said "Coventry Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce is delighted to, once again, support the Tourism & Culture Awards. This sector is crucial to the vibrancy of the local economy and it is great to have the opportunity to showcase the best of the best in tourism, leisure, arts and culture".
Helen Peters CEO of Shakespeare’s England said “Shakespeare’s England is delighted to be supporting this local initiative to champion the range and diversity of the Tourism offering across our region and we hope this will also give many of the winners and nominees the confidence to put themselves forward for the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in 2017”
Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: 'Warwickshire County Council is delighted and incredibly proud to be a key sponsor of the Coventry and Warwickshire Tourism Awards for the second year running. These awards are hugely significant for our region, which boasts a huge amount of world class attractions and areas of stunning natural beauty for visitors to the area and locals alike to enjoy.'
Jonathan Browning, chairman of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “Culture, Leisure and Tourism is a key industry to our area in terms of the people it employs, the income it generates and the image it portrays.
