Automotive Transformation Fund from the APC
The Automotive Transformation Fund sets out to put the UK at the centre of the global transition to zero emissions.
Creating a base for the future
The scale and pace of the change required to meet the ambitious net-zero targets raise significant challenges across the entire industrial landscape. As the automotive sector goes through the most significant disruptive technology transition in a century, the UK is ready to seize the once-in-a-generation opportunity to be at the forefront of the global ambition to eliminate vehicle emissions for good.
As the industry rapidly embraces electrification, there is a significant opportunity to create a sustainable and competitive UK supply chain for the design, build, manufacture and recycling of zero-emission vehicles. Accelerating business innovation and boosting R&D investment will make the UK the best place in the world to start and scale up business.
Accelerating progress
The Automotive Transformation Fund is a long-term programme designed to enable the UK to build the world’s most comprehensive and compelling electrified vehicle supply chain.ATF will enable UK-based manufacturers to serve global markets, increasing skilled jobs and building the foundations for the automotive industry to transition to zero-emission technologies.Through ATF, we will increase our scope to include industrialisation, enabling us to better support the UK automotive industry on the road to a zero-emission future.
Supporting key technologies
Supporting the industrialisation of this new supply chain means diving deep to support the sub-tier components, materials and chemicals that will supply this sector.
ATF is dedicated to supporting the large-scale industrialisation of an electrified supply chain. The programme will support strategically important capital and R&D investments in the UK and will begin by focusing on companies involved in:
- batteries including cells (’gigafactories’)
- battery management systems
- electric machines, drives and integrated power electronics
- fuel cells
A collaborative initiative
We are the gateway to UK automotive electrification opportunities and are on-hand to ensure rapid progress. Behind the scenes, the Automotive Transformation Fund is powered by a collaboration between the Advanced Propulsion Centre, the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade and Innovate UK.
Together these organisations will harness the knowledge developed through extensive research and consensus-building across the automotive industry and beyond, ensuring that investment is made in the areas that will help the UK automotive industry the most, and supporting investing organisations through their project journey.
