Coventry City of Culture Trust receives £100,000 in support of Green Futures Programme
Coventry City of Culture Trust has received £100,000 of investment from the Garfield Weston Foundation (GWF) to support its Green Futures Programme, designed to focus on the future of the city’s environment.
The support will go towards a variety of events in the programme including The Tides Within Us, which was announced in October as part of the first glimpse of the Coventry 2021 programme.
This major new site-specific production has been created by leading digital artists Marshmallow Laser Feast and combines audio storytelling with awe-inspiring digital installations.
It is being presented in partnership with Historic Coventry Trust, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and Coventry City Council, with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and is co-produced with York Mediale, an international media arts organisation.
The funding from GWF, a family-founded grant-making Trust that has been supporting causes in the UK for more than 50 years, builds on £3 million investment from the National Lottery Heritage Fund into Coventry City of Culture Trust’s plan to make a positive impact on nature, heritage and the environment of the city.
Martin Sutherland, Chief Executive of Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “We aim to be responsible and sustainable when it comes to our programme and to reconnect people with the city’s heritage and natural environment.
“Our Green Futures Programme is being designed to do exactly this, and we are delighted to have received support from the Garfield Weston Foundation to support us in reaching our ambitions.”
Philippa Charles, Director of Garfield Weston Foundation, said: “We are very pleased to support Coventry 2021.
“It’s unusual for GWF to fund a time-limited project in this way but we believe the Green Futures Programme and The Tides Within Us will be a wonderful way of bringing together heritage, the natural environment and technology in way that has a lasting impact.”
