More than 2,000 participants sign up for sporting event coming to Coventry and Warwickshire

A major sporting festival, which is returning to Coventry and Warwickshire in August and pitches businesses from across the region and the country against one another in a variety of sports, has already signed up over 2,000 participants.

The UK Corporate Games is taking place from August 3 to August 6, with the University of Warwick being the hub of the games which is supported by Coventry City Council and the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce as partners.

The Games, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, consist of 21 different sports across the three days – from running to football and from golf to netball.

Organisations can sign up to enter as little as one individual into a solo event through to hundreds of staff taking part in a range of sports.

Companies will be placed in a division with other businesses of a similar size in order to make it as competitive as possible. Many sports also have age categories.

Regional businesses will get the opportunity to compete against multi-national companies and network with the like of Barclays, Freeths, EY, Bupa and IBM at the Games SuperCentre registration and Saturday Welcome Festival.

Local councils in Coventry and Warwickshire, along with the University of Warwick have also signed up for the event, all entering sizeable teams of up to 100 participants.

Doug White, Games Director, said: “We are thrilled with the response that we’ve had from Coventry and Warwickshire businesses in what is the 30th anniversary of the UK Corporate Games.

“It’s our third visit to the region, starting back in 2013 with the UK games and then we returned again in 2019 for a successful European Games.

“Of course, we were hit by the pandemic like every other event so this year is an opportunity to return to pre-Covid levels of participation. Having over 2,000 participants already signed up is great news and this will increase by our entry deadline in July.

“There really is no other event like it because it brings local businesses together with major national and international organisations in a way that only sport can.

“The Games are open to all for the benefit of all and is a fantastic opportunity to bring your teams together. With 21 different sports there is something for everyone, whether that’s competing in the run to achieve your first 5k or getting back into netball.

“We are very pleased to be based out of the University of Warwick again, which offers some incredible facilities but we have other venues across the area hosting different events, including Daytona Tamworth, Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club and Stonebridge Golf Course, to make it a real region-wide event.”

The full list of sports includes badminton, basketball, cricket 8s, dragon boat, golf, esports, hockey, karting, netball, poker, running, soccer, soccer 6s, soccer 5s, softball, squash, table tennis, tennis, tenpin bowling, touch rugby and volleyball.

It costs just £89 + VAT per participant with additional supplements for karting, tenpin bowling and golf.
