Work starts on specialist £5.2m care home which will create 100 jobs in Telford
Work is underway on a new 33-bed specialist care home that is set to open in Telford next year.
Leading UK care provider Exemplar Health Care will be opening the new £5.2 million home on Woodside Avenue, and Midlands-based Deeley Construction has been appointed to complete the development. The home was designed by Leeds based S+SA Architects.
Woodside Place is set to generate around 100 new healthcare jobs in Telford and will feature 33 large bedrooms with en-suites. The care home will also feature communal dining and living spaces and sensory bathrooms on each unit, as well as a central activities hub, a therapy room and a large accessible garden.
It will specialise in supporting adults living with acquired brain injuries, complex mental health needs, dementia and physical disabilities.
Work is expected to be completed on site in June 2024, with the specialist care home expected to open in summer 2024.
Exemplar Health Care, which will be operating the facility, has over 40 care homes across the UK and is a leading provider of specialist nursing care for adults living with complex and high acuity needs, such as Huntingdon’s disease, acquired brain injuries, or physical disabilities. Exemplar Health Care works in partnership with NHS commissioners and social care funders and their homes enable people to be cared for in the community, rather than in a hospital setting.
Charlotte Lloyd, Director of Commissioning at Exemplar Health Care, said: “Our aim is to make every day better for our residents by providing person-centred care that focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible. We do this through a unique small group living care model, with ten residents per unit, which provides a more homely, supportive, and responsive care environment.”
“Once complete, the home will create around 100 new healthcare jobs, whilst enabling individuals with complex care needs to return from a hospital setting to a specialist community home, so they can live closer to friends and family. It’s our ambition for the home to be a place where our residents can play a full part in the local community whether through work placements, local events or volunteering.”
Deeley Construction, which is headquartered in Coventry, has a track-record of delivering extra care, dementia care, retirement living and medical centres across the Midlands.
Woodside Place is the third care home which Deeley Construction will construct in partnership with Exemplar Health Care – following a recently completed project in Walsall and ongoing refurbishment of a care home in Leicester.
It is also currently the third care and healthcare project Deeley Construction is completing in Telford.
Eleanor Deeley, Joint Managing Director of Deeley Group, said: “This is our third development on site with Exemplar Health Care and our strong partnership is again set to deliver an important new facility for people with complex needs in Telford and the surrounding areas.”
“The strength of our partnership with Exemplar Health Care is bringing forward a pipeline of specialist care facilities across the Midlands.
“Woodside Place also sees Deeley expanding into the Telford and Wrekin area. We are completing a range of other projects in the area, all of which are bringing significant care and economic benefits.”
Exemplar Health Care will start recruitment for the new home in Spring 2024, with a range of jobs on offer, including, Health Care Assistants, Registered Nurses, a Physiotherapist and an Occupational Therapist.
