Capture the wonders of nature in Warwick District in a new photography competition
Photography enthusiasts and those with a keen eye for nature are encouraged to take part in Warwick District Council’s new biodiversity photography competition, for the chance to win a £100 voucher.
The competition runs for 5 weeks from Friday 29 September to Sunday 5 November 2023, which includes October half term. There are two categories: one for those aged 17 and under, and those aged 18+. One winner from each category will receive a £100 One4all high street voucher.
Whether you are a seasoned photographer or simply enjoy snapping pictures on your phone whilst out and about, we welcome you to submit your best shot that captures the theme of 'Biodiversity in Warwick District’.
Biodiversity is the variety of all life on Earth – animals, plants, fungi and even micro-organisms like bacteria. It provides everything in nature that we need to survive including oxygen, food, clean water, medicine, and shelter.
Some examples could include:
- Flower rich grasslands with lots of insects
- Woodlands and parks
- Birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals
- Hedgerows
- Rivers, wetlands and ponds
Councillor James Kennedy, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to capture the rich natural environment of Warwick District, and to engage with our residents on the importance of developing, supporting and enhancing the ecology of our local area.
“I look forward to seeing the variety of images and am sure it will be a tough selection process for our judging panel.”
The competition supports the development of the Council’s Biodiversity Action Programme, following the declaration of an Ecological Emergency in October 2022.
