Midlands-based contractor makes new appointment to support growth
A specialist diamond drilling, concrete sawing and controlled demolition company – which has offices across the UK – has made a key appointment to support its ongoing growth.
D-Drill & Sawing, which is headquartered in Shilton, near Coventry, has taken on Iris Lin as its first quantity surveyor – a new role created to make sure the company is even more efficient when delivering its services to contractors across the country.
Iris, who is from Taiwan, came to the UK in 2023 to complete a Masters in Quantity Surveying at Nottingham Trent University after achieving a degree in Economics at National Dong Hwa University.
She was introduced to Julie White, the managing director D-Drill, earlier this year and has been working with the business while completing her Masters.
And, having handed in her dissertation, Iris was offered a full-time role with the company.
She said: “I am so happy to have this opportunity. Julie and the team have been so welcoming to me and I want to repay that by helping D-Drill to grow.
“I learned so much from my Masters and I will bring all of that knowledge into the real world of business.
“D-Drill carries out a very wide range of drilling, sawing and controlled demolition jobs across the country, using the very latest equipment and with highly-skilled operators. I will help to improve the processes to make sure the company is even more efficient and tracks all of the work the teams carry out on site.”
Julie White, who is also chair of Build UK and president of the Drilling and Sawing Association, said: “I know with both my D-Drill and my industry hat on that it is so difficult to find people with the right skills to bring into construction. We need another 50,000 people to join the sector each year if we are to deliver the growth the country needs.
“So, I’m absolutely thrilled that we’ve been able to recruit Iris and help to kick-start another female career in construction!
“Adding a quantity surveyor to the team has been something that we’ve been looking at for some time as part of our wider growth strategy and we’re looking to add more roles in the coming weeks and months.”
The new addition to the team comes hot on the heels of D-Drill launching new divisions which offer mobile mast and solar panel installers a drill it, fix it and pull-test service.
Julie added: “There are lots of opportunities for growth and we’re doing everything we can to make sure we’re able to capitalise on those by offering the same, high quality service the industry has come to expect from D-Drill and Sawing.”
