MTC Supporting Employers With Business-Ready

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is at the heart of UK industry and plays a vital role in addressing the skills gap in the high value manufacturing sector.

We are dedicated to developing the skills required for the next generation of manufacturing engineers and technicians and our apprenticeship programme is central to this.

Our competency frameworks have been devised not only to bridge the current skills gap, but to look at future developments in technology and provide young talented individuals with the skills required to succeed in a competitive market place.

Since launching in 2014, the MTC Apprenticeship programme has been making great strides in producing skilled engineers of the future – with the support of the manufacturing industry.

We work with employer partners to place talented young engineers into industry and in turn, generate significant employer benefits that help to develop, motivate and inspire your workforce as well as taking away the burden of having to find the right staff to meet the needs of your business.

Our programme is truly like no other as we recruit, employ and train apprentices for two years before placing them into industry – one of the unique elements of the scheme.

We are looking to increase our number of employer partners to support our programme, offering industrial placement opportunities with a view to permanent employment should the trial period be successful.

All our apprentice engineers have received two years training in CNC, Metrology and Automation consisting of:

  • Siemens and Heidenhain controls on CNC milling and turning machines, in addition to CAD experience using Solid-Works.
  • Fundamentals and First Principles of measurement, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, surface texture and CMM programming using PC-DMIS.
  • Mechatronics; PLC programming (Siemens S7), robotics, relay logic and fluid power

Taking an apprentice is risk free to your business as we offer a free month trial period, to ensure that the apprentice is right for your business before any commitment.

MTC would welcome the opportunity to visit your business to explain in more detail or alternatively offer you a visit to our training facility.
