Business Crime Advisor

According to HM Government, 60% of small businesses experienced some sort of cyber breach in 2014. According to the Warwickshire Cybercrime Survey, 14.1% of respondents were victims of cyber crime in the last 12 months. With these statistics in mind, business and cyber crime have been recognised as being a priority for Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Ball.

Alex Williams works as the Business Crime Advisor and is the single point of contact for businesses and partner agencies with up to date information on current crime trends and cyber threats. He serves the business community on behalf of Warwickshire County Council and will look to empower businesses by looking into the benefits of increasing security not just physically but also online through the use of Cyber Essentials. Working closely with the Police Crime Prevention Design Advisor and colleagues from Trading Standards across the County, he will work with groups of businesses through the Coventry & Warwickshire Growth Hub, Federation of Small Businesses, Chamber of Commerce and Local Enterprise Partnership to name but a few, but will also visit repeat victims to look at ways to minimise their vulnerability.

Part of his remit will also involve bringing Business Watch up to date to act as a vehicle for communication between businesses relating to crimes in the area or even tips on staying safe online. The Business Watch website has now been launched and can be accessed at http://www.warwickshirebusinesswatch.co.uk/. Williams further endeavours to promote awareness to as many businesses as possible regarding business and cyber crime through training packages and resources and looks forward to working with you in the near future.
