Businesses and athletes celebrate UK Corporate Games in awards evening

Business representatives and athletes who competed in a major sporting festival held in Coventry were celebrated in an awards evening at the University of Warwick.

The 2023 UK Corporate Games attracted more than 2,100 participants and saw 65 businesses from across the country go head-to-head in 18 different sports in August.

More than 40 people returned to the University of Warwick to toast the success of the games and recognise the top performing companies.

The event was held in Radcliffe, which is part of Warwick Conferences, and saw 23 awards presented – including a special Games Champion award.

The Games Champion Award was presented to Bill Torch, of Lloyds Banking Group, in recognition of him competing in 39 different Corporate Games around the world.

On the evening businesses were recognised for their efforts in various sports, with trophies for the winning business in each sport.

These included Lloyds Banking Group, Safran, Barclays, Insight, University of Warwick, Places for People and Fensa.

The businesses were split into seven divisions which reflected the number of competitors they entered, from 1-5 athletes in division one to 151-200 athletes in division seven.

Lloyd Banking Group won division four, Safran won division six and University of Warwick took home the prize for division seven.

Barclays were revealed to have come top of the medal table overall, despite only competing in division five, with 45 medals and a record 421 points.

Participation was also celebrated with Balfour Beatty winning the trophy for largest newcomer, while University of Warwick won the Grand Award in recognition of entering the most athletes into the games.

Doug White, Games Director, said: “This was the perfect way to sign off from what was a truly memorable Corporate Games in Coventry.

“We would like to thank the University of Warwick and Warwick Conferences for their hospitality on the evening.

“The UK Corporate Games awards celebration is always a great time to reflect on the games and celebrate the successes of participating businesses and organisations.”
