Coventry's Zoë’s Place praises link with venue that has helped it raise £380k for charity since 2015

A major Coventry charity has praised the support of a leading venue ahead of its annual flagship event – as it looks to pass a £400,000 fundraising milestone.

Coventry-based charity Zoë’s Place, which provides palliative and end-of-life care to children from birth to 5 years old, has held its annual gala ball at Coombe Abbey Hotel since 2015.

The events, which are organised by the Zoë’s Place Business Group, have raised around £380,000 since moving to the 12th century venue operated by NOHM.

Ian Carr, Head of Fundraising at Zoë’s Place Coventry, said he was looking forward to returning to Coombe Abbey for the 2023 Zoë’s Place Gala Ball, which takes place on Friday, November 17.

The evening sees a range of supporters from local business leaders to fundraisers from across the UK gather for an evening of music, food and fundraising at the historic venue, while celebrating the work of the charity to generate as many additional funds as possible.

The venue is a popular choice for business and private functions throughout the year, with more than 920 private bookings during 2022, from dining to awards evenings and major company events.

He said: “We are at a point now where our annual ball is synonymous with Coombe Abbey, and it’s fair to say that our relationship with the venue and the team at NOHM has played an important role in helping to be so successful in our fundraising over the years.

“The service and support we get every year from the hotel is phenomenal. From organisation and set up to the event itself, we are dealing with experienced event professionals who want to ensure the evening is a success.

“The venue is extremely well-established in the region, which is always useful when you are bringing together a wide range of businesses throughout the West Midlands and beyond.”

Peter Jarvis, Group CEO of Contechs, is Chair of the Zoë’s Place Business Group. He was appointed the first-ever National Patron of Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice in 2018 to help boost fundraising for each of the charity’s three hospices in Coventry, Liverpool and Middlesbrough.

He said: “Coombe Abbey Hotel has amplified the annual Zoë’s Place Gala Ball beyond our already high expectations. It simply would not be possible to raise such a large amount of money for such an incredible charity without Coombe Abbey’s competent event organisers. We’re thoroughly looking forward to another successful gala ball this November.”

Coombe Abbey Hotel can cater for corporate events, teambuilding, private functions and exhibitions of all sizes, with 11 unique meeting rooms all steeped in history and a range of dining and refreshment options.

Packages for groups of 10 to 150 are also available at NOHM’s city centre venue St Mary’s Guildhall, with a variety of rooms including its spectacular Great Hall for parties and events.

Kathy Nakra, Director of Sales at NOHM, said: “We are thrilled to see the continued success that the Zoë’s Place Business Group’s annual fundraising events have had over the years.

“Its galas are always fantastic events which raise a huge amount of money for a great cause, and it’s a privilege to be able to support them and other major functions and events of all kinds”
