New party room is cherry on top at Coombe Abbey, according to local event expert
A Coventry event expert has given her seal of approval to a new party space that is giving birthday celebrations a delicious twist at an iconic location.
No Ordinary Hospitality Management (NOHM) has launched The Sundae Club Party Room at Coombe Abbey – and Jess McLish, creator of popular local what’s on guide Coventry Rocks, has put it through its paces.
The Sundae Club Party Room, which can accommodate up to 12 guests, is one of the latest additions to The Avenue at Coombe as NOHM continues to develop the former visitors centre into a retail and leisure destination.
Jess, who created Coventry Rocks to help families find fun things to do in the city, chose the Sundae Club to celebrate her daughter Ruby’s third birthday, becoming one of the first people to try out the package, which adds a dance floor, lights and party games to a dessert creation station with a huge variety of options.
The event was the first time that Ruby, who was born at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, had experienced a traditional birthday party with close friends and relatives in one place.
Hosted by The Sundae Club’s Nina Knickerbocker, guests are invited to use their imagination to create a brand-new item for the Sundae Club, with a range of flavours and toppings at their disposal to add to freshly made waffles or crepes.
Youngsters then have the chance to take part in a disco and party games, as well as designing their own Sundae Club dessert parlour party hats.
Jess said: “Ruby had a brilliant time and it was great to see some of the creations that the kids made. It’s a fun way to bring family and friends together, and I’m sure it’s many kids’ dream to be able to create their own ice cream dessert and eat it too.
“Coombe Abbey is such a popular location for families throughout the year, and the new party room is a brilliant addition and means there is a dedicated indoor space for children’s parties – with the renowned Coombe Abbey quality being the cherry on top!
“We’ll definitely be back for future parties, and I’m sure it’s going to be a hit with other parents in Coventry and Warwickshire who are looking for a fun way to celebrate.”
The Avenue at Coombe is also home to the Café in the Park, Flowers at Coombe, The Abbey Artisan Market, and the original Sundae Club venue – which opened in 2021 and sits opposite the party room.
The Sundae Club also has a location in Coventry’s War Memorial Park, which is due to reopen this spring, just a short walk from fellow NOHM venue The Park Bistro.
Ron Terry, Group Operations Director at NOHM said: “We’re absolutely thrilled at the initial feedback we’ve had for our Sundae Club Party Room.
“It was great fun to have Jess and her friends and family along to try it, and to have someone with her knowledge of events in the region try it out has been a great way to launch the initiative.
“There is also the option to add on a visit to Go Ape, which is one of the best ways for younger visitors to explore the park, to make parties extra special and add an active element to their visit all in one location.”
The birthday child goes free on all bookings at The Sundae Club Party Room. For more information about The Sundae Club visit www.sundae-club.co.uk/birthday-parties
