Popular venue in Coventry's War Memorial Park expanded after successful first year

A popular café and bistro in Coventry’s War Memorial Park will now be able to welcome even more visitors after a £100,000 expansion.

The Park Bistro, which is operated by No Ordinary Hospitality Management (NOHM), has been expanded to feature 18 more covers inside and further outdoor seating after a successful first year in business.

The development follows the launch of the venue in June last year when it opened alongside a new ice cream kiosk – Park Gelato – and NOHM’s second Sundae Club, all part of an overall investment of £400,000 to add more choice for visitors.

As well as the additional indoor and outdoor seating, a new coffee hatch at The Park Bistro will allow visitors to pick up drinks and snacks during weekends and holidays. Park Gelato and Sundae Club, which also have outdoor seating, will also be open during these periods.

The Park Bistro has proved popular with visitors to the War Memorial Park – whether for breakfast, lunch or a daytime snack following a dog walk. It has also become a destination in its own right.

The NOHM venue, which serves a choice of breakfasts from 8am-11am and sandwiches, paninis, nachos, jackets and loaded fries throughout the day, will refresh its menu too to meet visitor demand.

On top of that, locally sourced products – including Baked Brownies from The Abbey Artisan Market, which is based at The Avenue at Coombe, are also available to purchase from The Park Bistro.

Ron Terry, Group Operations Director at No Ordinary Hospitality Management, said: “This expansion is a reflection of the fantastic reaction we’ve had from visitors over the last 12 months, as the Park Bistro has become a popular destination at War Memorial Park.

“We are constantly expanding our food and drink offer by working with local suppliers and refreshing our menus, and with the Sundae Club and Park Gelato also open during the summer, the War Memorial Park boasts an excellent range of options all supported by NOHM.

“We are thrilled to now be able to welcome even more people and are looking forward to seeing them enjoy the new indoor seating as well as excellent views across the park thanks to this expansion.”

Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader Coventry City Council, said: “Our city’s parks are venues that we can all be proud of.

“There are lots of free activities to do at the park, and the expanded café and bistro offer people other facilities to enjoy while at the park.

“The War Memorial Park offers something for everyone, whatever your age and I’m pleased that the café and bistro are proving to be popular.”
