Warwick District marks Commonwealth Day with the raising of the Commonwealth Flag
As the clock counts down to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Warwick District Council commemorated Commonwealth Day by raising the Commonwealth Flag.
The flag raising took place on Monday 8 March, which is a traditional part of Commonwealth Day and is a demonstration of the connection between the Commonwealth Countries.
This annual celebration is observed by people all over the Commonwealth in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.
The Chairman of Warwick District Council, Councillor Martyn Ashford commented;
“The raising of the Commonwealth Flag is an important symbol of the connection the district has with the countries of the Commonwealth and we are very proud to continue this tradition to commemorate Commonwealth Day. We look forward to welcoming many of these nations next year when St Nicholas Park becomes the start and finish venue for the Cycling Road Race event in Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa’s Victoria Park hosts the Lawn Bowls and Para Bowls as part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.”
