Helping Coventry & Warwickshire Businesses to Go Green

It was a busy morning in Stratford Upon Avon on 30 July when a variety of local businesses descended to a ‘Going Green’ event, which was part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Green Business Network. Organisations received details on ERDF funding opportunities available to them in the local area and how to apply for a free energy audit to enable their organisations to become more energy efficient. The Coventry and Warwickshire Green Business Network events are part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

There were presentations from Anna Bright, Chief Executive at Sustainability West Midlands who made the business case for becoming more energy efficient. Anna provided practical advice on where you can make simple low-cost actions and what the potential savings and paybacks could be.

Businesses then learnt from an organisation who has received a grant from the Green Business Programme. Richard Britton, Director of Nuneaton Truss Ltd, reflected on the success of what the funding is providing for his organisation in not only reducing carbon emissions but also reducing landfill costs by £48k per annum. The grant which Nuneaton Truss received enabled the organisation to install a BioMas boiler which in turn enables them to use their timber off-cuts to fuel the system so they are no longer sending it to landfill. In addition, less gas and electricity is being used and there are less transport costs for waste disposal.

The day concluded with details from Jennifer Taylor, Sales Manager, Commercial Waste at Coventry City Council. Jennifer advised organisations on what waste can be recycled; top tips for saving your business money, how to move towards a circular economy and the latest waste legislation updates.
