Warwickshire accountants raise £550 for The Shakespeare Hospice at national football tournament

A team of Warwickshire accountants have raised hundreds of pounds for charity after reaching the knockout stage of a national football tournament.

Burgis & Bullock sent a team of seven players to Manchester to compete in the Business Fives charity football tournament, raising £550 for The Shakespeare Hospice in the process.

The team made it through the group stage but injuries hampered their progress and they were knocked out from the tournament in the first knockout round.

Sam Hale led the team to Manchester to compete in the 46-team tournament after Burgis & Bullock ran out victorious in the regional event earlier this year.

Team captain Hale unfortunately suffered an injury half way through the tournament and was forced to guide and support the team from the sidelines.

The rest of squad consisted of Jake Orton, Pav Sajan, James Anstey, Connor Invernizzi, Niall Douglas and Jack Holmes. Pav Sajan ended the tournament as Burgis & Bullock’s top goal scorer with six goals.

Burgis & Bullock may not have come away with the trophy on the pitch, but they have been able to continue to raise vital funds for The Shakespeare Hospice.

The Shakespeare Hospice provides community-based care and support to patients across South Warwickshire. The company raised £150 for The Shakespeare Hospice at the regional tournament, and the £300 from the national tournament brings its total fundraising to £550.

Sam Hale said: “It wasn’t quite the result we hoped for in Manchester but it was still a great event where we were able to represent the firm. Ultimately, this was all about raising money for The Shakespeare Hospice and we are all very proud of the amount we have raised so far.

“We would like to thank everyone who has donated and would encourage people to continue showing their support for The Shakespeare Hospice and the incredible work they do

“We’re already looking at competing again next year and hopefully make the national finals again and progress deeper into the tournament!”
