Mayor of West Midlands Andy Street visits Coventry based D.A.R.L Engineering Ltd.
The management team from D.A.R.L. Engineering Ltd, a family run precision engineering company based at the Bayton Road Industrial Estate in Coventry, were delighted to host Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, on a visit to the company before Christmas.
The Mayor was interested to hear how the Made Smarter West Midlands programme had impacted the company, following their successful grant award in 2023, which helped them introduce a new Digital CNC milling machine into the business.
D.A.R.L. Engineering's skilled team adopted this new digital technology as part of their continuous improvement and this latest piece of equipment has helped the company improve its output significantly by reducing the tool changes required in producing high quality Cam Shafts. Made Smarter has also helped the business to devise a digital strategy as part of a technical Road Map, identifying where new technology could assist the business in improving its output and high-quality standards.
Speaking to the Mayor, Director Kimberly Lynam explained how Made Smarter helped identify appropriate digital tools for the business and outlined how valuable the financial assistance had been.
The Mayor was delighted to hear about the positive impact Made Smarter has had on the daily running of this West Midlands company who, as a result of introducing the new technology, have seen an increase in enquiries and are experiencing rapid growth.
Paul Sullivan, Digital Transformation Specialist from Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Hub, who are delivering the Made Smarter programme on behalf of the Department for Business & Trade and the West Midlands Combined Authority said, “The Mayor played a major role in introducing the Made Smarter Programme to the West Midlands after it had been successfully rolled out in the North of England. It was gratifying to be able to showcase one of the many Made Smarter success stories to him during his visit to Coventry and we look forward to hosting more such visits in the future, which serve to highlight the scale of positive impact Made Smarter has had on West Midlands manufacturing and engineering businesses.
