Business role in the community to be showcased at regional event

The wider role that companies play in the communities of Coventry and Warwickshire will be showcased at an event this month – and will also highlight the business benefits of a strong corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy.

The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce has organised a CSR showcase at The Village Hotel in Coventry on Friday, January 24, in support of the British Chambers of Commerce’s People campaign.

The event will offer companies across the region to meet with local charities who offer CSR opportunities and partnerships and also hear from businesses who put CSR at the heart of their growth and recruitment policy.

Stephen Cresswell, senior general manager at the Village Hotel Club Coventry, will highlight the company’s Village Green initiative, while Ian McKinney, of Gallagher, will talk about how the firm has successfully implemented CSR policies and how they have had a positive impact on the company and the local community.

Charities exhibiting at the event include Hope Coventry, Make-a-wish, Ovacome, Penny Appeal, Practical Action, Relate Coventry & Warwickshire, Shine A Light, St Basils, The Gap Community Centre, The Myton Hospices and Workcare (Coventry & Warwickshire).

The event will run from 9.30am and will close at 1pm after a networking buffet lunch.

Chris Nagle, events and marketing manager at the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Companies with a robust CSR policy not only give back to the community in which they operate, they also feel business benefits too.

“There is strong evidence to suggest that when it comes to recruitment, a company’s CSR policy is something the millennial generation of workers puts great stall in, so it can help firms to attract the best talent.

“This event will offer companies across Coventry and Warwickshire the opportunity to hear from businesses that have set out very clear CSR policies and some local charities that could become CSR partners for companies on the patch.”
