Coventry brewery plans expansion into spirits and strengthens support of city's DMO

A Coventry brewery, which has opened three bars in the last three years, has signed up as a Patron of the city’s destination management organisation to support the next stage of its growth.

Dhillon’s Brewery, which was founded in 2015, has joined Destination Coventry as part of its growth plans that include developing a range of spirits after the success of its craft ales and lagers.

The brewery, which is located off Rowley’s Green Lane, has rapidly expanded across the city in the last three years - opening the Sky Blue Tavern and Dhillon’s Spire Bar in 2021 and the Dhillon’s Lounge at Coventry Building Society Arena earlier this year.

On the back of its success, the brewery is in the process of applying for a distillery licence to expand its product range. It is also considering opportunities to open more bars and work with a wider range of venues and organisations across the city.

Founder and Managing Director, Dal Dhillon, moved from London to set up the business and has fully-embraced the city, with the culture of Coventry at heart of the brewery’s brand and ethos.

Dal has long-term ambitions to expand with bars in Birmingham and central London, but is committed to strengthening the business’s Coventry foundations first.

The brewery is already an official partner with Coventry City Football Club and has now firmed-up its already strong relationship with Destination Coventry. Dal has been a member of the Destination Coventry board, representing the city’s hospitality and night-time economy, since 2022.

“Our ambition is to continue to grow and develop our business, but also ensure that we are capturing wants and needs of the local community.” said Dal.

“To do that, it’s important that we have our finger on the pulse in Coventry and being a Patron of Destination Coventry brings that broader perspective to the table for us.

“We have several businesses in the city and it continues to be a challenging time for the hospitality industry, but by working with Destination Coventry we can ensure that we are delivering a product and offer that fits with consumer trends in the city.

“The next stage for our business is to open up our own distillery, which was a process we started pre-Covid, but we are now looking at applying for a licence.

“We are ingrained in the culture of Coventry now and have a lot of strong connections in the city, which leads to a lot of opportunities for expansion - something we are always considering.”

Destination Coventry Patrons are members that have pledged to support the wider destination marketing and management efforts undertaken to raise the profile of Coventry and the wider region to national and international audiences.
