FSB: A Big Hitter For Small Businesses
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has appointed Leamington Spa entrepreneur and business-owner Sarah Windrum as their regional Policy Representative for the West Midlands.
The Federation is the largest business membership organisation in the UK. It represents the interests of the 5.8 million small businesses that make up more than 99 per cent of all private sector enterprises in the country. As Policy Representative for the West Midlands, Sarah will be the formal link connecting FSB’s National Policy to this region’s small businesses. She will help to ensure that the local challenges and opportunities they face are addressed in FSB policies and campaigns at the national and regional levels.
Sarah is very well qualified for the role. As well as running her own high-tech small business in the region, Emerald IT Managed Solutions, she is a board member of the West Midlands Combined Authority, a Director of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership and is also an industry adviser to the National College of Digital Skills.
Despite her already-hectic schedule, Sarah is looking forward to taking on her new role. She commented:
“FSB works tirelessly to ensure that small businesses have their voice heard across all the main political, media and policy-making arenas. I am really looking forward to informing and progressing that work. To do so, I will draw on my business experience, local knowledge and network of contacts to provide the evidence, ideas and drive necessary to influence decisions and to deliver beneficial change for small businesses in the West Midlands and elsewhere’.
Sarah also advocates technology as a force for good and works to help people, businesses and communities to benefit from it. So as well as her many business interests, she also supports community groups like the Warwickshire Bears Wheelchair Basketball team and runs Tiny Techs – an initiative that encourages more young people to take up a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Sarah added:
“In business and in life, I believe in capturing attention and harnessing imagination. I also believe that everyone has the power to make a positive difference. So we should all seize the opportunity to do exactly that, at every opportunity”.
