Turning up the heat on renewables
35 business leaders gathered at a very sunny Warwickshire Golf Club on Thursday, 19th September for a Coventry and Warwickshire Green Business Network event on renewable energy. Organisations received details on ERDF funding opportunities available to them in the local area and how to apply for a free energy audit to enable their organisations to become more energy efficient. The Coventry and Warwickshire Green Business Network events are part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). There were presentations from Angus Rose, Director at Ineco Energy who provided details on the opportunities available for Solar PV for business, covering battery storage, the commercial viability of solar batteries and the payback periods.
Businesses then heard from an organisation who has received a grant from the Green Business Programme which provided funding for Solar PV. Nitin Thakrar, Director of ELearning Studios, reflected on the success of what the funding is providing for his organisation in not only reducing carbon emissions but also reducing energy costs. The grant which ELearning Studios received enabled the organisation to install Solar PV and a Battery Storage unit which is storing energy and releasing this to the company. The solar storage system will be sufficient to cover the annual electricity bills of the company, which currently amounts to 1.9 tonnes of carbon.
The day concluded with details from Bean Beanland who is Chair of the Ground Source Heat Pump Association who provided an overview of on the benefits available with ground source heat pumps, details on how they work, the investment needed and the payback period.
